Conference Summary: Urban Regeneration and Sustainability (URS) – 6th Edition

The 6th edition of the International Conference on Urban Regeneration and Sustainability (URS) was successfully convened in Rome, Italy, bringing together a global community of architects, urban planners, and researchers. The event moved beyond the technicalities of construction to explore regeneration as a "living process" one that restores soul, identity, and social fabric to our cities and rural landscapes.

Day1: Tuesday,25 November 2025 – Sapienza University of Rome

The first day commenced with an opening ceremony at Sapienza University of Rome, led by Dr. Mourad Amer,CEO and Founder of IEREK. Opening remarks were also shared by Prof. Ferdinando Trapani and Prof. Carmelina Bevilacqua from Sapienza University, emphasizing the transition from resource consumption toward stewardship.

A special welcoming word was given by Prof. Nada Rožmanec Matičič, Acting Dean and Founder of the Faculty of Design, who discussed the role of design education in social transformation and building empathy in new generations of designers.

The URS 6th Edition successfully established a professional platform for dialogue between urban and rural regeneration. By bridging the gap between disciplines, the event underscored the importance of design as a cultural and ethical tool, ensuring that regeneration remains a continuous commitment to the well-being of both people and the planet for generations to come.
